Actually, I seem to be in some kind of a second puberty... :-) Reading slash stories and sighing like a perfect fool, or almost toppling over with laughter.

I have known Star Trek for about twenty years now, having been introduced to it by a girl friend. What I mean is that I didn't actually grow up with it, like so many people ^^ I still find most of the stories intriguing, and I also am a huge fan of DS9. I also liked the 11th film, the one directed by JJ Adams. (Actually, it ignited my "Star Trek fever" again. ;-)

I heard about the K/S slash practically from the start and at first thought it was a damn silly notion, but after some time - and having read some stories - I must admit that the pairing makes a sense of its own. If I get on with it, I will be publishing some stories of my own in the near future.

English is not my mother language, so I would be very grateful to find one or more beta readers! Before I place something stupid online, because writing in another language is tricky, and you never know...

I will wrote more about myself here later. Thanks for your patience ^^

I absolutely love the first part of this story, all of the details of Kirk's family are irresistible, as well as Spock's reaction on them! I must admit that I don't like the second part that much, it is as if it wasn't fitting to the first which was so sweet. However, it is a very good ff ^^

Author's Response: Well, at least you enjoyed the first part. *g* Seriously, I couldn't imagine that their reunion would be anything but pleasant. They'd given up the innocence of youth to, ultimately, face their adult problems. I wish that had worked for you.

Summary:

Kirk brings Spock to his winter cabin. Well there, he discovers that keeping his emotions under wraps is a lot more difficult there than on the Enterprise. A Christmas Gift has some significance in the change of their relationship to one another.

Still one of my favourite stories, despite the "usual" k/s cliché: one of them intends to tell the other about being in love with him, and surprise, it turns out the other just intended to do the same :-)

What I absolutely love is the way you describe their characters, how you make them act and talk, it's like straight from the series or from the films. Or, at least, the way I see them seems to be very similar to yours. I also like the mixture of poetry and eroticism, it is both very intense. Though I am reviewing only now, it is already tradition with me to reread this story every year around Christmas and... * huge sigh*

Very beautiful! This is actually one of the few k/s stories I know that actually offers a "logical" reason for their pairing - desire as an unexpected result of a mental bond. I certainly wouldn't have thought of that :-) And I think I must read all of your other stories, too.

Author's Response: I'm glad it worked for you...and, of course, I'm happy to hear you're planning on reading more. Thanks for the lovely comment!

Actually, I must admit I didn't like the k/s element so much in this story as the scene in sickbay between Spock and young Geoffrey. It was incredibly intense. Also, I liked the fact that the story is written from Spock's point of view. But then, I must admit I'm a huge Spock fan :-)

Author's Response:

That scene basically popped into my head already written, an' I just transcribed what I saw on the mindscreen... ;-)>  I liked that scene a lot because finally Spock could do something that *he* thought was useful, and being blind didn't matter.

I'm a huge Spock fan too.  He basically kept me from jumping off a bridge, as a cub.  Don't reckon I'd still be here, otherwise.

"Shamelessly romantic" is right :-) It's beautiful! I have rarely read a story so romantic without being sappy. I particularly liked the fact that their first encounter had an impact on both characters despite the many years of separation that followed.

The only thing that irritates me slightly is "Annie's Song". I love it, but it seems a little funny that a song dedicated to a woman should eventually be leading two guys to be together ^^

One of the best k/s fictions I have ever read ;-)

The only detail that I find a little "illogical" (if I may venture to say the word) is that both had chosen very personal Christmas gifts for one another, as if they had already known that they would come together during this holiday. But in this case, they wouldn't have been surprised by Winona's assumption ^^

I have to admit I don't believe in karmic relationships ^^ And if I remember well, Kirk and Spock grew close over the years, they weren't such good friends at the beginning of TOS. But I like your story, what you made of the assumption that "these two were meant to be".

The only slight "error" I can find is Spock giving himself a false name. That's like lying, isn't it? I thought Vulcans didn't lie :-)

I must admit that though I liked the first part very much, the second one didn't convince me. It would be just like Kirk to leave his new lover behind so selfishly, but then going back because he almost lost him... I mean, realizing how much someone means to you because he almost died may make sense, but is a little too much cliché. Perhaps it's my fault for reading too much fanfiction. :-)

Anyway, thank you for your story.

Author's Response:

Yes it is a cliche, but then again I wrote this story 17 years ago, when it was perhaps less of a cliche than it is now.  That said, someone pointed out I've used the same device in a few of my much more recent stories, so I have no excuse there - it's obviously an old favourite.  :)  Thanks for reading and commenting.  :)

How beautiful, it makes me want to hike through the Big Basin Preserve and the Cathedral Grove right away! Your description of the surroundings is extraordinary.

I also like the love story, particularly the mind meld. It was just perhaps a little difficult to understand why they began making love in the first place, Spock certainly isn't someone who would go for casual sex... But perhaps I'm just being too scrupulous :-)

Author's Response:

If you ever get the chance to visit them, you will not be disappointed; if anything I failed to do them justice.

As for why they began -- well, it wasn't really a situation where either of them woke up all the way and *considered it* -- more like, half asleep cuddles turning to half-awake lovings... if that makes sense.  On duty I agree, neither would do such a thing.  But on leave, away from the ship, the public, the reporters, just the two of them alone in a *byooootyful* wilderness... well.

As the Victorians used to say, "nothing propinks like propinquity"  ;-)>
