I love it! Although, I can't really imagine the Bolero being as powerful as it is with a full orchestra using only a saxophonist and percussionist, no matter how talented they may be. The draw of the piece comes from the intricate layering of different instruments to create the drawing complexity of Ravel's masterpiece. Still, well done, I love it!

Author's Response:

I wanted to include a piece of music that everyone would recognise, so I chose Bolero and had Spock say pretty much what you have, because I realised it wouldn't have anywhere close to the same kind of impact with only one instrument.  I'm glad you're enjoying it, though!  :-)

This makes me so. Freaking. Happy! As a super nerdy music major, this sort of AU always makes me turn to mush. Especially when Jim plays the clarinet like me!!!!! I flailed for real. And I never pictured Spock as a percussionist, but I love the thought!

Author's Response:

I've wanted to write an orchestral AU since last summer, but someone on LJ beat me to it and did such a fantastic job, I let the idea go.  But then someone was searching for AU music fic and I ended up doing a commentfic for it and then...  Spock as percussionist was partly inspired by the bells in Amok Time, and also giving him an 'instrument' that doesn't require a lot of emotionalism to play.  It's cool you play the clarinet.  Now I'm going to have to be extra careful what I write, because my instruments are violin and piano!  :-)
