It makes me so happy to see this masterpiece on the archive now! What a beautifully crafted piece, I wish that had been an actual episode on the screen.
And then the volta, a turn so subtle and yet life-changing:
"It’s not unexpected. This has been offered before, and Spock has refused it without understanding what it was. He has no idea how to make this right. But an ancient instinct makes him take a step forward, closing the physical distance between them by the length of one Vulcan stride. He says, “Yes.” Kirk looks up abruptly, and his eyes widen in sudden comprehension."
And then this:
"This is not to be feared. This is what he has been searching for. This is who he is."
Oh yes. This is how I love my K/S of choice. <3
Thank you so much!! Once again, couldn't have done it without your help. It's wonderful to see the zine stories start to appear here (especially yours, which, as you know, I adore! Have already re-devoured it; am feeling kind of shame-faced that I haven't left a review yet! I'll sort this out RIGHT NOW). Thank you, my friend!
