Author's Chapter Notes:

For those who remember my Through The Years universe, this story is from the series.

In this series Frank is a caring stepdad.

I haven't been around due to the sudden death of my dad.  Yesterday was the one month anniversary and I went to help my mom through it.  I wrote this in memory of him.

At that time, I also wrote a couple of blogs that can be found at:http://missfaeagain.livejournal.com/34057.html  and  http://missfaeagain.livejournal.com/34845.html

There are obvious errors due to my state of mind at the time.  I just hope you'll read and be blessed as I was writing them.

Minor/original off scene character death.

Summary: What makes an angel?

Disclaimer: You know I don't own or know any of these people. Purely my imagination.

Six-year-old Jimmy Kirk sat with his feet hanging over the end of the dock on the lake at his family’s vacation home.  He hugged Sam close to his chest as the tears rolled down his cheeks.  The wood on the docked creaked under the heavy steps coming towards him.

He didn’t need to turn around to know his stepdad’s footfall.  Jimmy continued to gaze at the lake as his dad lowered himself beside him.  Silence prevailed as father and son watch the gentle motion of the water.

“Jimmy?”  Frank’s voice was gentle as he spoke.  “Do you know what a guardian angel is?”  immy stared ahead.  “Buddy?”

“No,” the word was a barely audible whisper. “No, I don’t.”

“A guardian angel is a being that lives in heaven.  But sometimes, they come down to earth for a little while to take care of you.  They show you what love is and they make sure that you have what you need.  They tell you about God and Jesus and the wonders of heaven.  Then, when it’s time, they go back to heaven and wait for you to come and join them.”

Frank put his arm around Jimmy and pulled the boy close to his side.

“Daddy?”

“Yes, Jimmy.”

“Do you think that granddad is a guardian angel?”

Frank smiled.  “I know he is.”

Jimmy relaxed and snuggled into his dad.

“I’m glad.”
