Bio:

I've loved the original Star Trek most of my life and written slash on and off for much of it, though only recently have I combined the interests.

A note that will apply to anything I write: My 'universe' is that of TOS and the original cast movies. It therefore may not be consistent with every detail about Vulcans, etc. 'revealed' in later series (let alone the 'reboot', which does not work for me at all). Just pretend I was writing in the 1960s!

Also: Australian spelling. I realise Kirk would not think of his behind as an a-r-s-e (for example), but then he probably wouldn't think with commas and semi-colons, either.

I don't know why I hadn't read this before! Great story - sensual and bleak, at the end. Rather fittingly, I read it in the hours before dawn (courtesy of jet-lag), which added an eerie immediacy to Kirk and Spock's final conversation, as the sun rose in New Orleans, and here. I'm glad to know there's a sequel, which I will be reading promptly! On a lighter note, Kirk in the bath was hot :)

Thank you, that's very kind. I appreciate you taking the time to read it, and to comment!

It’s a question of biology. Vulcan biology.

The problem with falling in love with a member of an insanely private species is that it just might take you the best part of a five year mission to work out that the feelings are requited. And then you might discover that he’s already decided that the two of you can never be together.

And what are you supposed to do if he won’t tell you why?

I read this a couple of months ago. Now that I've got around to creating an account, 'extremely impressed' seems woefully inadequate to describe my week with Spice. Kirk's anguish, and some of the scenes with Lori in particular, have really stuck in my head. To employ a bit of synecdoche, there was one chapter I read on my phone, while walking along the street - not something I've ever done before - because it seemed impossible not to. I must say I expected Spock's almost-life-destroying reservations to be more firmly (logically?) grounded, but that took nothing way from the journey. Thank you.

Amazing! This is brilliantly written, like all your work; I've never seen Kirk & Spock's internal thoughts written the way you write them, and I loved seeing what you did with the various ST storylines/characters. This is the kind of story where one requires a great deal of self-discipline to stop reading and go to work/bed/etc., or just go do something else for a bit, so it's not over too soon. I will be re-reading all your stories (I owe you comments on the others as well), and would of course be delighted to read anything you write in the future. Life is better when reading your stories :)

Chapter 9: Epilogue for "Amok Time" -- Spock explains some important aspects of Vulcan culture to Kirk and has an enlightening conversation with T'Pau.

Hello! Reading this prompted me to recover my password so I could say that I enjoyed reading it and the various thoughts and notes :) It also struck me as so true to the series that Spock explains Vulcan residual telepathic energy by an analogy with radio programmes, which of course would be perfectly natural in the 60s but which would no doubt be a bit 'retro' in the 23rd century (I think there's some comment to that effect - in 'A piece of the action'?)... and just the sort of thing I can see Kirk being into!

I like the way you have Spock & Kirk very comfortable talking about sex, and it's the doctor who ends up embarrassed! Also Kirk's reaction to the mind-dance :)

Very best wishes to you.

Author's Response:

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed this!

I think Dr. McCoy isn't embarrassed about sex in the abstract or sex when he's in doctor mode.  It's hearing his two best friends planning to have sex that he doesn't want to hear any more of, and really, that isn't the sort of thing that most humans do in front of a non-participant. :-)

Thanks for the good wishes!

I too re-watched The Paradise Syndrome recently; it's a good example of an episode where one thinks, if this happened in the sort of series they make these days (or even TNG, to an extent), we'd spend at least the next few weeks dealing with the fall-out (emotional, engineering... potentially legal, as you point out). It's a shame, in a way, that we're so often left thinking "then what happened?!?" On the plus side, however, more room for fancfic to make it up! I've read a few stories that do so, for this episode, and I was very interested to see another... which is another way of saying, I enjoyed the story! Thank you :)

Author's Response:

BBC America is rerunning TOS as you probably know, and viewing these lush, updated versions of the original episodes which I saw on grainy black and white has been interesting and sometime inspiring.  There will likely be more episode based stories in my future.  Thanks for your comments.

Interesting story! Great idea about the infra-red; I saw a show once about how budgerigars look much fancier through budgerigar eyes, but I'd never thought about the possibility with Vulcans or other species! Nice dialogue, too.

Author's Response:

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment; I'm very glad that you enjoyed the story.  I enjoy writing the dialogue the most; I guess it probably shows. :-)

Thanks for telling me about the budgies!  That's really interesting, and it goes along with what I was thinking about for Vulcans.  Since Spock's wall hangings are red, and since Vulcan has red sands, it seemed to me that having Vulcans see a lot more shades of red than humans do would make Vulcans even more interesting (if it's even possible for Vulcans to be more interesting than they already are. :-D)  It seems as if it would be adaptive for them to see a lot of shades of red, so that might have evolved...

Can a person from Spock's past help captain and first officer become more than friends?

When the Enterprise's first officer recruits childhood acquaintance, Tralnor, as a partner in completing a dangerous covert task assigned by T'Pau, nothing is easy. Vulcan's shadowy past still has teeth, and the onus is on Spock to stop a piece of history from taking a bite out of the present.

Jim Kirk, convinced he's still got time to ask Spock to be his lover, starts to fray at the edges, nearly sinking their relationship, after he catches wind of a very special woman in Spock's life. What Kirk does not know is just how much Spock wants to stay at the captain's side as a friend plus a lot more.

Will Kirk and Spock overcome their inability to express their true feelings toward one another?  Is it going to take meddling friends and crewmates to push them together? What is T'Pau so desperate to find the answers to? And, who or what exactly is Mollie?
