Long-time Star Trek fan, here. I wrote (absolutely dreadful) K/S (sort of) before I even knew what slash was. The writing has improved a bit since those days. Now, if I could just find the old stuff and burn it...;)

What a lovely story this is! I really love the way that you expose the likelihood that Spock would be quite severely affected by the cold of Sarpeidon. It's something that makes sense, and that I haven't seen done that often, and definitely not in this way. Lovely TLC from Kirk, great dictatorial mother-henning from McCoy and such a gorgeous image of life's strength and fragility, all rolled into one. This piece will haunt me in many beautiful ways for a very long time. Thank you for writing it! :) --Catherine

Mistletoe Challenge by Amanda Warrington Rated: ADULT (NC-17) starstarstarstarhalf-star [Reviews - 25]
Summary:

N.B. Despite the name, this is not a 'challenge' or humorous story.

In his final year, Spock briefly meets Kirk at the Academy Winter Ball. One day, many years later, the man who made a lasting impression on Spock assumes command of the Enterprise. Shamelessly romantic, this was written for the 2008 K/S Advent Calendar.

Voted best K/S story in the 2008 Golden Orgasm awards.

This is an absolutely lovely story. I read it on the Advent Calendar, but have so far neglected to write you about it (RL conflicts, as usual), so I thought I'd just drop by here and let you know publicly how very highly I thought of it. I shall send you detailed feedback privately, but I should note that I absolutely adored the care that Kirk took of and with Spock, both at the original ball and at its reenactment. Such love, and so typical of the care shown between them in the series. Thank you so much for writing this piece! --Catherine

I really love this story. I do remember reading it before, though because my brain seems to have turned sieve-like without my permission, I can't quite remember where. That said, it was such a nice surprise to discover this again.

Great character voices, terrific format for this genre and the characters, and one of the best 'the crew writes slash about us!' fics I've seen in any fandom. Very well done! Thank you so much for reposting this. :)

A shuttle crash leaves Spock, Sulu and Chekov adrift on a deserted ocean world. As Chekov fights for his life and Sulu tries desperately to save him, Spock reflects on the strong bond that exists between the two men and starts to wonder what it is he’s really afraid of in his friendship with Kirk…

This is gorgeous. It was a lovely read in the zine, and it's just as lovely here. Beautifully thought-out, nuanced examination of Spock's thinking and self-discovery via ordeal. The flash-backs to his conversations with Kirk are lovely, and the last one is so poignant - especially when tied in to Spock's musing that he should have let Kirk win the argument - that it nearly made me tear up. (That's hard to do.)

Thank you for this lovely piece. I have the zine by my bed, and am likely to re-read this a lot.

Thank you so much! I couldn't ask for any higher praise than to have my fic re-read! The zine is so beautiful - I just love that I was able to be a part of it, and to get this sort of feedback is absolutely wonderful. Thank you!

Ah, poor, hapless Jim Kirk... *cough* Nicely done. Loved the 'call me Spock' twist at the end! :D

This is gorgeous, Cate. Thank you for writing it and letting me know of its existence. I love this look at Christine, painful as it is, and her genuine strength. I think you've done a wonderful job of doing that without flinching from her canon vulnerability and failures at romance. I also love the glimpses you give of Spock's conundrum. His awkwardness about relationships (of any kind) and tenderness of spirit are palpable here and living together in as flawed and perfect a way as one could hope to see. This is a story I'm unlikely to forget.
