Title: Chapter 10: Through the Looking Glass and Aboard a Starship
WOOOAAAHHHH oh no
I hope they believe hiiimmm if this is the same Khan but really you wouldn't cliffhanger it if it wasn't right.
This chapter had tons of good bits, and lots of oh-my-god-he-is-a-fossil moments. I loved (and was a little ashamed at loving so hard) his reaction to Uhura, especially when he called her -brown sugar-, because sometimes you see clips of Nichols calling people sugar and aaarrghhh I loved it. Mentioning 'breaking the color barrier' was kinda hilarious. Even better when you think about the whole 'first white-black kiss on tv' thing.
Also the whole Cold War thing, I was worried what would happen when he mentioned it but it turned out just fine. Chekov's so great. With all that blushing I got the impression of a bit of a man-crush and it was cute.
With this motley crew observed by 90s!Jim you really are reminded of how this was, like, a retro-futurism vision, because everyone is so straight-up one culture (except for Sulu, who thankfully doesn't have a painful accent, and is a mix of Japanese and Chinese, I think, but still.) Even Spock, the one guy with two really different mixed cultures, tries to only show one side of his heritage. What we really see now is the whole melting pot effect. So I dunno, that was fun.
Good to see Spock again, to see them kind of getting along.
So, I love this story [: As always, thank you for writing. And I wanna say thanks for spreading your time around between all your different projects! Seeing any one of them update is always a treat.
Author's Response: Thanks; I do try to be even-handed about giving all my stories regular updates, because I have different people following different sagas.
